It’s the most wonderful time of the year, and All-Points Waste Service is once again partnering with Charlotte and surrounding-area businesses and organizations by being a toy drop-off center in the 2017 Marine Toys for Tots Program. The program’s outreach spreads across the country and most everyone is familiar with this wonderful charity. Each year, from October to mid-December, community-wide toy drives organized by local divisions of the United States Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots Program help children everywhere experience the joy of Christmas. All-Points is thrilled to join the cause this season as a donation center at our main office in Indian Trail to help reach the goal of helping children in need experience the magic of the Christmas season.

A Quick Look at the Marine Toys for Tots Program
The first Toys for Tots drive was held in Los Angeles, California—spearheaded by the United States Marine Corps Reserve Major Bill Hendricks—in 1947, and ever since then, the program has expanded its reach to collect and distribute toys to less fortunate children in communities throughout the United States. Now, communities across the country that are home to Marine Corps Reserve Units—or even those communities that have a Marine Corps League Detachment of veterans and the like—follow in Major Bill Hendricks’s footsteps each year to carry on this noble cause of gathering and passing out gifts to these children.
Since the program started in 1947, Toys for Tots has collected and distributed upwards of 530 million toys that have been given as Christmas gifts to over 244 million less fortunate children. The program aims to instill a greater sense of hope and responsibility in children across the country, which will, in turn, lead to a future generation of socially responsible and caring adults.
“Who Supports Local and National Marine Toys for Tots Campaigns?”
We are glad you asked! For those who are unfamiliar with the program, Toys for Tots is a top charitable organization that has made many appearances on the “Philanthropy 400” lists over the years. This country-wide initiative has even been supported by famous public figures like Ronald Reagan, Michelle Obama, and Bob Hope—just to name a few.
Along with being recognized as a top charity and receiving support from these iconic public figures, the Toys for Tots Program is also given plenty additional community support throughout each year. Although the majority of the fundraising campaigns and toy drives for Toys for Tots take place near the holiday season, many local chapters that support this charity also host a wide range of other events like bike races and golf outings throughout the year to promote the program.
